One of the first things that I do when getting ready for vacation is to print off my vacation checklists. These checklists make it easier for me to keep track of the things that I need to do to get ready and what I need to pack. These lists are not extensive. I am always modifying them for different trips. However, they are general ideas of preparation steps that you can take to make your vacation easier.
This checklist includes reminders to make reservations, get tickets, arrange for services, and gather information.
Vacation Checklist – Before You Leave
This checklist is all about the little errands that you need to run – stop your mail, talk to a neighbor, buy certain supplies, labeling and organizing.
Vacation Checklist – As You Walk Out the Door
This checklist reminds you to do the necessary chores to leave your house safe and secure.
Vacation Checklist – Mom’s Packing List
This is my packing list. It list all of the necessary clothes items, toiletries, electronics, etc. that I need for a summer vacation. You will need to modify the list a bit for a different season.
Vacation Checklist – Kid’s Packing List
This is the packing list that I give each of my kids to help them pack. Since I have one son and two daughters, I edit the list for each. This list is all inclusive and can be changed as needed.
Please feel free to leave comments about items that are essential when you travel. I would love to add them to the lists!

This is a great idea. I always end up leaving something at home when we go on trips. I should do more planning ahead of time.

Great tips! Several years ago, when our youngest was relocating to another state, my husband put together a binder for us, as she and I were making the cross country trip together. He downloaded a Trip Tik from AAA and printed it out for us. He highlighted the route , all the rest stops, fast food restaurants, gas stations, and Walmarts that we might want to stop at, along the way.. He also attached out our hotel reservations, along with emergency information. It made the time go by so much faster, as we marked off our progress on each page.
He made a funny cover page, put in a pen, paper, envelope for receipts, and extra small bills, and change, into a zippered pencil case. I still have that binder, and it brings back fond memories.
